Windstar was founded in 1976 by singer/songwriter and environmentalist John Denver along with Aikido Master Tom Crum (see below). Windstar is a non profit environmental education organization which promotes a holistic approach to addressing environmental concerns.

Windstar is the recognition and demonstration that each of us is part of, and responsible for, the quality of life on planet Earth; and that which affects any one of us, affects us all.

Aspen Camp of The Deaf and Hard of Hearing

They provide year-round activities for Deaf and Hard of Hearing youth and adults from all over the world on a beautiful 15 acre Colorado site, located just minutes from the world-class mountain resorts of Aspen/Snowmass.

Campers can ski and snowboard in the winter and hike, bike, fly-fish, backpacking, river raft, horseback ride and more the rest of the year.  All Deaf and HH campers and their Hearing siblings are welcome to any camp session, regardless of how you communicate - oral or sign.

Challenge Aspen

Challenge Aspen’s mission is providing recreational and cultural experiences for people with disabilities, helping them master new skills and enhancing their lives. People with disabilities face challenges that extend beyond the scope of their real physical limitations, with isolations being the most difficult.

Activities ranging from fishing to cross country skiing help participants overcome that isolation; build self-confidence and HAVE FUN – along with their families and friends. For the past 6 years, EAMNF has sponsored 40 children attending the camp, a total of 240 campers.   For more information please visit

Tom Crum's Aiki Works

Thomas Crum is an author and presenter in the fields of conflict resolution, peak performance, and stress management.  He is known throughout the world for The Thomas Crum Approach, taught through best-selling books, audio and visual materials, and live presentations of varying length and designed to help people become more centered under conflict, more resourceful when facing challenges, and more effective under stress. Tom also has been a teacher of Aikido, a graceful martial art which uses energy rather than force to resolve conflicts.  With John Denver, he founded the Windstar Foundation (see above).

EAMNF sponsored 4 of Tom's "Journey To Center" workshops in Scottsdale & Sedona, Arizona. Tom also co-facilitated with Karmen in presenting EAMNF's Awakening Programs in the Arizona Dept. of Corrections.

Arizona Magic of Music & Dance

Arizona Magic of Music & Dance Camp is a unique program for children and young adults with physical and mental disabilities – that - in just one week prepares them to stage a wonderful theater production written and choreographed especially for them. Cathy Crum, Julie & Tom Paxton went to Scottsdale to Put on their first Camp as they do every year for Challenge Aspen.  This year, we sponsored almost 1/2 of the children attending this camp 7 out of 17!
